Attack against Shiite Muslims in Pak leaves one dead
Quetta, May 31: Gunmen ambushed a car carrying a Shiite Muslim leader in southwestern Pakistan today, wounding him and killing his son.
Quetta, May 31: Gunmen ambushed a car carrying a Shiite Muslim leader in southwestern Pakistan today, wounding him and killing his son.
The attack, which also wounded their driver, occurred as
Ghulam Nabi, the local Shiite leader, was on his way home to
Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, police said.
Two motorcyclists opened fire on the car, then escaped, Deputy Superintendent of Police Habibullah Sherani told.
Nabi's son, Abdul Ghafoor, died immediately. The other two victims were being treated for their injuries at a local hospital.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known.
However, religious violence has long been a problem between Pakistan's majority Sunnis and minority Shiites.
