Annan rules out sending UN peacekeepers to Iraq
United Nations, Aug 21: Secretary general Kofi Annan has rejected the idea of sending a UN peacekeeping force to Iraq under the present circumstances.
United Nations, Aug 21: Secretary general Kofi Annan has rejected the idea of sending a UN peacekeeping force to Iraq under the present circumstances.
Annan told reporters that the issue of the Security Council authorising a multinational force is under consideration.
"But we don't see UN Blue Helmets (peacekeepers) going into Iraq at this stage. It is not a job for Blue Helmets," he said.
