New Delhi: The Indian film fraternity has expressed condolences on the sad demise of Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, who passed way in Paris at the age of 75.
Celebrities including American filmmaker Mira Nair, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and actor Rahul Bose took to social media to mourn the deadth of the veteran director.
Paying her respect, Mira Nair tweeted, "Rest in peace and beauty and complexity you brought to the world with your unforgettable cinema, Abbas kiarostami."
Madhur shared, "The world of Cinema has lost a true Cinematic genius Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami . RIP."
Rahul Bose wrote, "One of the greats of our time. #AbbasKiarostami."
"Deeply saddened to know that Abbas Kiarostami passed away. We have lost a great filmmaker and a wonderful human," tweeted actress Nandita Das.
Film critic Rajeev Masand shared, "RIP Abbas Kiarostami, great filmmaker who put Iranian cinema on the map. His exquisite Taste of Cherry is essential viewing for film lovers."
Kiarostami, who was the only Iranian to ever win the Palme D'Or, had been receiving treatment for gastrointestinal cancer and had travelled to France for a series of operations.
