Tension prevailed in Bhauri village of the district following killing of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader allegedly by BJP supporters, police said.

The BJP workers also shot at and injured the mother of the BSP leader Harish Chandra, police said adding the killing appeared to be the result of an altercation between the Chandra and a polling agent Rajulala during polling. Hundreds of BSP workers led by party MP Ram Sajivan later blocked the Jhansi highway in protest against the killing, police said.
Senior police officials had reached the village, they said. Police and PAC in strength had been deployed in the village and the situation was described as tense but under control, they said.
