Chennai, June 04: Hathway Cable and Datacom, a leading multisystem operator (MSO), plans to invest Rs 150 crore towards introducing Conditional Access System (CAS) for cable TV subscribers across the country, a top executive of the company said on Tuesday. "We have already invested over Rs 30 crore as a first phase for this project," K Suresh Kumar, who is heading the Chennai and Bangalore operations of the company, told reporters here on Tuesday.
He said the company would be importing at least 75,000 set-top-boxes for Chennai subscribers alone, adding that post-CAS the consumer would have the option to watch a minimum of 30 free-to-air (FTA) channels for only Rs 72 per month.
Post-CAS the consumer would have the choice of which channels to subscribe and avoid paying for all the additional channels that he was not interested to watch, he added.
He said CAS would bring in complete transparency in declaration of subscriber numbers and pricing of pay channels. Bureau Report
