Kolkata, Aug 27: Petrol pumps in the state affiliated to West Bengal Petroleum Dealers' Association will neither buy nor sell petrol or diesel for three days from today to protest the state government's decision to impose sales tax on the fuels.
A spokesman of the association said imposition of 0.75 paise sales tax on diesel per litre and Rs 1.55 on petrol have dealt a deadly blow to the business of pumps located on the highways.
He said that sales at the pumps in districts and highways have plummeted steeply forcing the owners to shut down their shops. Previously, the state government imposed a cess of one rupee on diesel and petrol.
The association also complained of police harassment on the petrol pump owners. Bureau Report
