Jalpaiguri, Aug 23: The bail petitions of four students of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College who were arrested on august 6 on charges of ragging a fresher two weeks ago have been dismissed by a district court.
Rejecting the bail petitions of Parashar Kishore Singh, Mainak Choudhury, Nigam Prasad Kundu and Subhadeep Naha yesterday, sub-divisional judicial magistrate Lakshmikanta Das ordered that the arrested students should continue in judicial custody till August 28 when the police would produce the case diary to the court.
The students had been booked in connection with the ragging of Sayandeep Bandopadhyay, student of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, who suffered cuts all over his body as he was allegedly beaten up with iron rods and cycle chains on August 5.
The four students had been named in an FIR filed by Sayandeep's father and were produced at the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate on August 7.
