Orai, Jalaun, Feb 03: The Uttar Pradesh government today ordered a probe into the alleged role of Jalaun Police Superintendent R K Tripathi in shielding the culprits involved in police firing in the Konch area of the district. State Agriculture Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said that he had received complaints about the role of Tripathi and an investigation has been ordered.
Tripathi who has already been removed from his post will face strict action if found guilty, the minister said.
Earlier, the minister, who was on a visit to the trouble-torn areas, met the families of those killed in the police firing and handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh each. Meanwhile, Konch town remained closed today after yesterday's violence in which three SP workers were killed and many injured when police opened fire on a rally organised by the Samajwadi Party in protest against the detention of some businessmen of the area.
Senior police officers were camping in the area to maintain peace.
