Chennai, Aug 18: The AIADMK, which has been supporting BJP on some of its pet ideological issues, today asked the Centre to enact a common civil code, saying it was the need of the hour. "Political, social and natural justice demanded such a code," a resolution passed at the party executive meeting here said. The meeting welcomed party supremo Jayalalithaa's statement that AIADMK would support the law, when it is brought in Lok Sabha. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister C Ponnaiyan was elected as the party presidium chairman in place of Pulamai Pithan, who had resigned from the post on health grounds.
Resolutions, welcoming various welfare schemes initiated by the AIADMK government, were also passed at the meeting. Bureau Report
