Fernandes reviews situation at Akhnoor camp
Jammu, July 23: Defence Minister George Fernandes today reviewed the situation at Akhnoor army camp, where eight armymen, including Brigadier V K Govil, were killed and 12 others injured in an attack by a terrorist suicide squad.

Defence sources here said that soon after arrival,
Fernandes left for the army camp at Tanda and was briefed at
the EME Garrison by army officers about yesterday`s suicide
attack in which Northern Command chief, Lt Gen Hari Prasad, 16
Corps Commander Lt Gen T P S Brar, two Major Generals and two
Colonels were among the injured.
During his 45-minute stay at the camp, Fernandes reviewed the security around the army camp. He was briefed by Army Chief Gen N.C. Vij, who had visited the army camp yesterday, the sources said.
Fernandes also visited the military hospital here and interacted with the injured jawans, the sources said.
He will also visit Northern Command Military Hospital, where 16 Corps Commander, Lt Gen T P S Brar, GOC, 10 Division J K Saproo, Major General D. Khanna and two Colonels are undergoing treatment.
Later, Fernandes will also visit Srinagar, where Northern Command Chief, Lt Gen Hari Prasad is undergoing treatment.
The sources said the Minister will also review a high level security meeting along with the Army Chief.
Gen Vij, who yesterday visited the camp, had directed for immediate upgradation of security around all defence locations in Jammu and Kashmir.
