Jammu, May 17: Lt Gen Arvind Sharma will be the new commander of Leh-based strategic 14-Corps which looks after the operational area of Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and China besides the world's highest and coldest battlefield Siachen glacier, defence sources said here today. Gen Sharma replaces Lt Gen R B Singh, who relinquished the command of 14 Corps after a year of his tenure in northern sector's most strategic area, the sources said.
Gen Sharma would be 4th commander of 14 corps set up after Kargil war in 1999, the sources said adding that Lt Gen V Masih, Lt Gen Ashok Ray and Lt Gen B R Singh had served in the area.
Lt Gen R B Singh now proceeds to Mhow as commandant army war college, the premier training institute of Indian Army, the sources said.
The 58-year-old Gen Singh, who was commissioned on December 25, 1965 is an aluminus of the NDA, Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) and National Defence College (NDC), sources said.
