A special court on Friday issued non-bailable warrant against Mohammed Farooq Abdul Razak, absconding accused in a case of sedition and brother of suspected al Queda terrorist Mohammed Afroz. As regards plea made by police to cancel bail of Mohammed Afroz, the court decided to consider it after police filed supplementary chargesheet. Permission was earlier obtained by the police to file this report within eight weeks.
The warrant was issued by designated judge A P Bhangale who observed that the accused had failed to surrender on two occasions earlier despite a court directive.
The judge opined that the accused should have surrendered before the court and then urged for bail because he was facing serious charges. He should have cooperated with investigating agency to prove his bonafides, the judge noted.
Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam submitted that police had seized from Farooq's office hard discs containing photographs of international terrorists Osama bin Laden and Mulla Omar. Hence Farooq's custody was needed to confront him with the photographs, he said.
The prosecutor informed the court that investigations had come to a standstill because Farooq was not available to police.
As regards cancellation of Afroz's bail, he said that the accused had threatened witnesses who lodged complaints with police. Thus he had tampered with evidence and misused liberty granted to him by the court. The statements of witnesses have been recorded and police had registered a case against him. Bureau Report
