New Delhi, Aug 03: The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Centre, Lt Governor of Delhi, MCD Commissioner, city police chief and four others on a writ petition alleging illegal daily slaughter of over 15,000 animals, including sick and dead, in the capital in violation of the court's order.
While issuing the notices to the union home secretary, Lt Governor, secretary Delhi administration, MCD commissioner, Delhi Police Commissioner, DCP North, DCP police control room and the SHO of Sadar Bazar, Justice S K Kaul asked them to file their replies by September 2, the next date of hearing.
Alleging mixing of buffalo meat with that of goats and sheep, petitioner Md Amjad of young Qureshis front against social evils complained that there were no trained inspectors to effectively check the menace.
Due to dereliction of duty by the police and MCD officials as also due to their ignorance Delhiites purchase meat of illegally slaughtered dead and sick animals and there were no checks on the quality of meat sold here, the petition filed through advocate M T Siddique alleged.
The petitioner, himself a butcher, claimed that he "makes complaints to the PCR (phone no.100) in consequence of which defaulters are arrested and fines are recovered from them".

Stating that the departments of customs and income tax follow the practice of rewarding the informers, he requested the court to direct the authorities to give him 20 per cent commission on a permanent basis on the fines realised from the erring butchers and order police and MCD to train their staff to check the quality of meat sold in the capital.
