New Delhi, May 31: The local subsidiary of Czech carmaker Skoda Auto on Friday said it has acquired 300,000 square metres of land in Aurangabad to assemble completely knocked down kits of its luxury cars in the country. The company at present sells the `Octavia` model by importing semi-knocked down kits.
It has started the process of upgrading existing facilities and developing the greenfield site, which it hopes to complete by the first quarter of 2004. Skoda India also plans to roll out new models of the luxury car `Octavia Laurin and Klement` this year in the completely knocked down (CKD) format while the `Superb` model, which would be positioned against the `Mercedes E-Class`, would be sent for homologation shortly.
To boost the technical skills of the existing manpower, technical teams from production and logistics were being sent to Czech Republic for advanced training.
