Bhopal, June 21: Reiterating his demand to transfer all Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) to the states, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has said the funds for
CSS should be routed through consolidated funds of states' accounts.
"The resolution for this has already been passed by Prime
Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the NDC meeting held last
year and it should be honoured,” Singh said yesterday,
speaking at the meeting of the National Development Council
(NDC) committee on transfer of CSS in New Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission K C Pant, an official release said here today.
The states should be involved in framing the policies keeping in mind the local needs, he said, adding implementation should be done by state governments in cooperation with the Government of India.
Pointing out the discrepancies in the present system, Singh said for every sanction one has to approach the Central government.
He said the Planning Commission should earmark the priorities and allow the states to implement it.
He also said that during last four years Madhya Pradesh did not receive Rs 3,500 crore that was due under various centrally sponsored schemes.
Agreeing with Singh's suggestion, Pant said that states' priorities and national issues should go hand in hand for all round development of the country.
