New Delhi, May 01: Deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptullah has done it again. Deserting Congress in favour of the NDA, she said today that if a Congress supported government comes to power, it would be unstable and this would hurt the development of the country.
She said, "We saw that after second exit poll results, the share market crashed. It showed that people were anxious that if NDA did not come to power, economic development would be affected.”

On the paradox of her being in the Congress and favouring NDA, she said, “Question before me is of the country and not of the party. For me country is more important.” She added that as a sensible Indian citizen, she felt that an NDA government would provide the required stability in the country.

Besides she felt, “The ongoing Indo-Pak dialogue would also suffer. I have been to Pakistan and President Pervez Musharraf told us that dialogue between the two countries would continue only if Atal Bihari Vajpyee remains at helm of the affairs.” Heptullah said that if the defence budget is curtailed, it would release funds for development. This too she felt was possible only under an NDA government.
