Lakhimpur Khiri (UP), June 17: Hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said she would re-induct Amar Mani Tripathi into her ministry if family members of slain poetess Madhumita Shukla give in writing that they did not consider him guilty, Shanti Shukla, mother of Madhumita, faxed a letter to the governor saying she had never accused Tripathi in the case.
"As we have never named Tripathi in the FIR, we have no right to declare him guilty," Shanti Shukla said in the letter faxed to Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri.
A copy of the letter was also sent to the chief minister's office.
Shanti Shukla refused to say anything on chief minister's decision to hand over the murder case to the CBI.
