Lucknow, June 27: Terming the employment schemes of
the Union government as "lop-sided", Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Mayawati today alleged they failed to benefit the
Dalits and the "imbalance" would end only when BSP takes over
the reins at the Centre.
"The Centre-sponsored employment schemes are lopsided and
its benefits have not reached the Dalits. This is not a new
trend it is continuing since independence", she told a press
conference here.
Mayawati said this imbalance would end only when a
BSP-led government is formed at the Centre.
To fulfil this dream, the BSP has to make its footing stronger in some states, she said and claimed that the party's influence was increasing in some Hindi-speaking states. If the party can form government in few states, it would be a step towards forming a government at the Centre, Mayawati said.
Asked whether BSP would favour a coalition government at the Centre, she claimed "We will not need any help from others (political parties) once we form governments in states. But this may take atleast another five-six years to fructify".
On the opposition claims that her goverment had been reduced to minority after withdrawal of support by the 14-member Rashtriya Lok Dal, the chief minister said the BSP victory in the just concluded bypoll to Chiraigaon assembly seat had proved that people were in favour of her government
