Nine ultras among 14 killed in J&K
Srinagar, Aug 09: 14 people, including nine militants and three security personnel, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces foiled an infiltration bid and ultras launched grenade attacks on police lines and on the house of a ruling PDP MLA since last night, a police spokesman said today.

Two Lashker-e-toiba militants, members of a suicide squad tasked to strike on the eve of 'Raksha bandhan' and Independence Day, were shot dead by army while trying to infiltrate into this side of the line of control in Poonch district late this afternoon, he said.
Troops, who laid cordons and ambushes along the LoC after receiving specific information about attempts of infiltration, noted movement of a group of militants in Sabzian area late this afternoon, he said. A fierce gunbattle broke out when the troops challenged them and two ultras and a soldier were killed in the encounter.
Documents recovered from the slain ultras revealed that the militants were members of a suicide squad tasked to strike in Poonch on the eve of Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day, he said.

In another encounter in Rajouri district, three Hizbul Mujahideen militants - Jan Nisar and Abdul Baker (both residents of Pakistan) and their local associate Mohammad
Ashraf - were killed by security forces in Doori mal forest.
