Rochester (New York), Aug 17: And now Oak Hill Country Club's humbling of Tiger Woods is complete.
The eight-time major winner missed seven of the first eight fairways and 12 of 18 greens here yesterday at the 85th PGA Championship, struggling to a three-over par 73 to stand at nine-over par 219 after 54 holes.
"I haven't played my best," Woods said. "I have just been a touch off. It's one thing after another. It just added up."
Woods was in danger of his worst major finish as a professional, lower than his shares of 29th at this event in 1997 and 2001, after his worst three scores in a row at a major since the 1999 British Open at Carnoustie.

"It's the hardest, fairest golf course I've ever played," Woods said. "Carnoustie wasn't fair."

Unable to find a fairway until the ninth hole, Woods spent much of the day spraying errant shots into the dense rough at unforgiving Oak Hill and digging divots in the deep grass.

"It wears on your patience," he said. "I have been as patient as possible. I fought it all the way. If I had bagged it, I could have shot a million."

Woods, who has never come from behind on the final day to win a major, has no real hope of winning a major for the fifth year in a row. But the top-ranked star is realistic about the end of his run.

"I've done it before. It won't be the last time," Woods said. "You are going to see years where you don't win. That's ok, as long as you improve.
