MP to allot liquor shops on licence fee

Announcing the new excise policy for the next financial year at a press conference here today, Commercial Tax Minister Kailash Chawla said it would not only end monopoly in liquor trade but also ensure quality and reasonable price for the consumers.
Based on the Uttar Pradesh model, he said it had been implemented successfully in the neighbouring state.
He said both country and foreign liquor shops would be allotted on payment of licence fee after inviting applications on the basis of minimum quantity. The allotment would be through draw of lots if there were more than one application.
The decision had been taken on the recommendation of the Cabinet sub-committee on the matter. Bureau Report
