Beijing, July 02: The last three patients suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome were today discharged from a hospital in south China's Guangdong province. "Guangdong now has no SARS patients," said a news agency reported from the provincial capital, Guangzhou.
Guangdong, the worst hit province had reported 1,512 SARS cases and 58 deaths. According to experts from WHO, SARS broke out first in Foshan city of Guangdong in mid-November last year and spread to other parts of China and also to 30 other countries triggering a major health alert.
A total of 348 deaths were reported in china alone whereas the worldwide figure stood at 812. Meanwhile, the State Council has sent 15 inspection teams to different localities to ensure that preventive measures have been taken by the local authorities.
According to a circular issued by the state council, the teams would inspect the work done by local governments on quarantine, disinfection and the use of preventive medicines. It also plans to set up special laboratories to ensure the safety of staff in experimental research.
