Srinagar, July 20: Senior Hurriyat leader Javeed Ahmed Mir was today arrested for attempting to take out a procession in violation of prohibitory orders in force in Jammu and Kashmir, a top police official said. Inspector General of police K Rajindera Kumar said Mir and some of his accomplices were arrested for violating Section 144 while attempting to take out a procession here.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat chairman Abdul Gani Bhat claimed senior leaders of the conference, including Mirwaiz Omar Farooq and Moulvi Abbas Ansari, were put under house arrest by the police early today.
Mir and Bilal Gani lone were arrested along with several activists of the separatist conglomerate who were beaten up before being take into custody, he claimed.

However, Kumar denied that other six Hurriyat executive members were put under house arrest.

A Hurriyat spokesman in a statement here late night, said there would be no strike on Saturday adding the separatist amalgam was only planning to take out a peace march from Lal Chowk.
