Panicky behaviour by two passengers on board the Alliance Air plane, which was suspected to be hijacked last night, landed them in police custody. Mistaking them to be the suspected hijackers of the Boeing 737, the Palam airport police even registered a case of hijacking and illegal confinement against Sunil Kumar and Inder Sharma who were seen rushing about in the plane trying to enter the cockpit.
According to an air-hostess of the Mumbai-Delhi flight CD 7444 the two of them were making anxious strides up and down the aisle of the plane and were making frantic attempts to enter the cockpit. The air hostess suspected them to be the hijackers and police later took them into custody and lost no time in registering a case against them.
However, on interrogation it was found that the two persons were actually innocent passengers thrown into hyper activity by the sudden panic caused by the hijack drama. They were actually trying to find a safe place for themselves in the cockpit after word spread in the plane that it was hijacked. Both of them were said to be residents of Uttam Nagar in West Delhi with no criminal record.
Sources in the police said the interrogation of the two passengers was still on even as earlier reports said the duo was let off after their identities were ascertained. Bureau Report
