Aizawl, July 15: The 11-day monsoon session of Mizoram Assembly, likely to be the last one of the current house, began here today. The session began with obituary reference on the demise of former Rajya Sabha member Lalbuaia who died on June 6, 2003. Chief Minister Zoramthanga described him as a pioneer in Mizoram politics. Zoramthanga, who also holds finance portfolio, also presented the first supplementary demands for 2003-2004. In his statement, Zoramthanga said the first supplementary demand was necessitated as the annual budget he presented yesterday was prepared at the level of last year's plan allocation due to non-finalisation of the state annual plan outlay for the current year by the Planning Commission. While last year's annual plan outlay was Rs 430 crore, the plan outlay for the current year was fixed at Rs 480 crore by the Planning Commission in April, he said.

The supplementary demand for Rs 61.50 crore represented the increased annual plan with some technical adjustments.

The session would continue till July 29 and the state budget would be taken up during it.
