Agartala, Aug 08: Insurgents of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), accompanied by local criminals of Bangladesh, opened 'unprovoked' firing at a BSF patrol last night forcing the jawans to retaliate, police said.
The insurgents opened fire only 500 metres away from the zero line at Magruli village in north Tripura. On receipt of the information, the strength of BSF at the location was increased and additional forces from state police sent to supplement them.
The exchange of fire lasted for about half-an-hour but no casualty was reported from the BSF side, police said. Earlier, a BSF jawan was killed by the insurgents in the same village on Sunday last when the jawans foiled an attempt of kidnapping of an Indian citizen.
Sources in BSF said they were trying to contact BDR to lodge a complaint that Indian terrorists were using Bangladesh soil to attack security forces. Bureau Report
