Toronto, July 13: World series leader Paul Tracy continued his domination of Cart as he took pole position for Sunday's Molson Indy Toronto, his third of the season.
Tracy posted a top lap of 58.839 seconds around the 1.3 mile street circuit at Exhibition Place averaging 107.3 mph in a Ford/Lola to take the pole from provisional winner Brazil's Bruno Junqueira.
"I've never been on the pole here and it's great for Team Player's Forsythe to come here and score the pole," said Tracy.
He avoided intermittent rain during the final qualifying session and secured his third pole this season, second in three races and 16th of his career.
The 33-year-old Canadian will start on the front row for the seventh time this season on Sunday. Junqueira guaranteed himself a spot on the front row by being fastest in Friday's qualifying session.
"Unfortunately, we waited until the end of the session," said Junqueira. "It worked for us yesterday but not today.
"It's a lottery trying to decide when to go on track for your 15 timed laps."
The top three starters will be Ford/Lolas after Mexico's Michel Jourdain held onto third, with Canada's Alex Tagliani next to him in the second row for his best start at this race.
