Gangtok, July 04: Sikkim government has revised the reservation quota for various communities in government jobs and higher studies in the state.
Gangtok, July 04: Sikkim government has revised the reservation quota for various communities in government jobs and higher studies in the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting of state ministers and legislators of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at his official residence here on June 2.
Announcing this at a press conference here yesterday Chamling said the need to do so arose after the inclusion of the Limboos and Tamangs as scheduled tribes. "Following the inclusion of the twin communities as STS it was imperative to see that the benefits that are accruable flow to all members of the scheduled tribes," he said.
Reiterating his government's commitment to eradicate poverty and provide opportunities to people from the weaker sections, the chief minister said the revised quota also gives reservations to people from this category in higher studies. The percentage of seats reserved for scheduled tribes in government jobs and institutions for higher studies has been raised from 23 to 31 per cent. Bureau Report
