Colombo, Nov 11: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has accepted President Chandrika Kumaratunga's offer for talks to resolve the political crisis in the island nation, a cabinet spokesman said today.
He said the Prime Minister has indicated he would be willing to meet the President on Wednesday to discuss the prospects of a national unity government.
But with the political turmoil, the big question that remains is when talks with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will resume.
Norway's special envoy Erik Solheim, who is brokering talks with the LTTE, has arrived in Colombo to try and find a way out of the crisis. With the Prime Minister accepting Kumaratunga's invitation for a meeting, there's renewed hope that the deadlock would be resolved soon.
