New Delhi: Recently, music sensation Yo Yo Honey Singh confessed that he was suffering from Bipolar disorder. While many reported that the singer had a period of lull when he resorted to rehab – Yo Yo revealed on his birthday (March 15) that he in fact, was a victim of this mental disorder. A few weeks ago Television actress Shama Sikander also stated a similar story.

Bipolar disorder is a serious mental ailment which affects many. Often, psychologists and psychiatrists claim that bipolar disorder may have a semblance with creativity. Many reports and studies have also revealed a link between the two.


There are a number of popular celebrities who have fallen prey to this mental disease worldwide – while some were lucky enough to identity and came to terms with it, many others succumbed to it and suffered a lot of backlash in their personal and social life.


Here are a few celebrities who were diagnosed with Bipolar disorder:


Shama Sikander: The TV actress Shama Sikander rose to fame with telly serial 'Ye Meri Life Hai'  back in 2004. Now, she was recently seen in a short film 'Sexaholic'. The actress evolved as a performer from playing a girl-next-door character in a TV serial to embracing this bold portrayal in the short film. However, the next shocker came when she revealed about her fight with bipolar disorder.


Yo Yo Honey Singh: The popular singer recently confessed that he slipped into solitude following his confrontation with the disorder. The whole experience for Yo Yo was scary and difficult as he also was an alcoholic. Everyone missed his music when he was gone from the picture!


Mel Gibson: The 'Braveheart' actor succumbed to this disorder which adversely affected his personal and professional life. Reportedly, Gibson's temperamental problems and anger had gained a lot of public attention and he suffered a lot of emotional repercussions.


Marilyn Monroe: The beautiful actress reportedly suffered from manic depression and had terrible mood swings. There is a lot of mystery surrounding her life and death and rumours had always been rife about her alcohol and drug problem.


Kurt Cobain: The singer's popular song 'Lithium' is a testimony to the fact that he might have battled bipolar disorder at least at some point in his life. Although it was never public, Cobain's cousin Bev had often hinted that in many interviews.


Catherine Zeta-Jones: 'The Legend of Zorro' actress revealed about her illness and how she battled it for a long time. The actress had reportedly found her home to be a place where she can “hide”. After a low-key health treatment, she slowly came got back to her everyday life.


While these are just a few names, the list of Bipolar diagnosed celebrities is quite a long one.
