Coimbatore, Feb 03: CPI has sought immediate intervention of the Centre to stop the weir construction activities across Bhavani river, being carried out by Kerala government.
Alleging that the construction works were going on at Mukkali, despite environment ministry's directives to keep it
in abeyance, CPI district executive committee said that
thousands of farmers and people of erode and Coimbatore
districts would be severely affected, if the Centre did not
take immediate measures to stop the works.
In a resolution adopted at its meeting held on Saturday last, the committee also urged the Centre to convene a meeting of Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments and initiate dialogue to find a permanent solution to the vexed issue, party district secretary, P Kannan said. The committee, also appealed to the Centre not to implement the proposals by Trai recommending revision of telephone tariff and duration of calls, which would directly affect the common man, Kannan said.
