Leander returning to India on Sunday
New Delhi, Oct 04: Leander Paes, recuperating from a brain cyst in his US-base in Orlando, will return to India on Sunday, his father Dr. Vece Paes said.
New Delhi, Oct 04: Leander Paes, recuperating from a brain cyst in his US-base in Orlando, will return to India on Sunday, his father Dr. Vece Paes said.
"I spoke to him (Paes) over phone yesterday, and he told
me he is returning home on Sunday," Dr. Vece Paes told.
Paes will return to his home in Mumbai from Orlando, where he was admitted to a hospital for a brain lesion a week before the US Open grand slam last month. The tumour turned out to be a mere paralytic infection of tapeworm rather than a cancerous as the doctors feared.
The tennis star came out of the hospital within days and since then has been undergoing treatment at his Orlando home.
A scan on Sep 19 revealed 50 per cent reduction of the cysts. Dr. Paes said his son was scheduled to undergo another scan Oct 19 to determine further course of Leander's recovery.
"The next scan is supposed to be done after 30 days from the previous one, on Oct 19 to by the month end," he said.
Paes, himself a sports medicine expert, said Leander wanted to be fit in time for the year end tennis Masters Cup in Houston beginning November 10.
"Leander actually wants to play the year end championships, I don't know if that will be possible," he said.
Paes said Leander's wish of playing at Houston would depend on the medical tests in the coming days.
"At the moment, I am more concerned about his well being than seeing him getting back on the court."
"Much would depend on the scan results in the coming weeks. If the doctors say he can't play, he can't."
