Mumbai: Riteish Deshmukh, who made his acting debut in Marathi cinema with action film "Lai Bhaari", said that he wishes to do one Marathi film in a year.
"Doing a film is the important thing for me, and doesn't matter if I am doing Hindi or Marathi film. However I always attempt to do at least one film in a year," he said at the launch of first-ever Ajeenkya D.Y. Patil Filmfare Awards (Marathi).
Riteish made his debut as a film producer with Marathi success "Balak Palak", directed by Ravi Jadhav which was a success. Following that he made his debut in Marathi cinema with "Lai Bhari", which went on to become the highest grossing Marathi film of all time.
"I enjoyed working in 'Lai Bhari' after 10 years. I am glad that 'Lai Bhari' did well at the box office. Accordingly I am looking forward to doing more films in Marathi in coming times.
"We did attempt something different in 'Lai Bhari'. Nishikant and I thought of trying to make an action drama movie in Marathi, following the trend of south movies.
"This genre was never attempted in Marathi. We were not sure whether it would be accepted. Eventually Marathi movie viewers watch Hindi movies. So it was not a new thing but as a Marathi film definitely an unusual attempt," said Riteish, who made a special appearance at the unveiling of the Black Lady and even warmly welcomed Filmfare to the Marathi industry.
Filmfare set to honour excellence in Marathi cinema with the Ajeenkya D.Y. Patil Filmfare Awards (Marathi), which will be given to finest works of 2014 in all fields, filmmaking, the music department, production design, acting and more.
