New Delhi, Dec 08: Government has asked all TV channels to strictly adhere to the specified programme code, which among other things also provides for certification of all music videos and albums by the censor board, Rajya Sabha was informed today. However, when asked if there was a proposal for setting up a censor board to check vulgar music videos being shown on television channels, information and broadcasting minister Ravi Shankar Prasad replied in the negative.
"Under the provisions of Cinematograph Act, 1952, all music videos/music albums are to be certified by the Central Board of Film Certification. It is the responsibility of TV channels to see whether the particular version of the music video/album that is slated for telecast has been certified by the CBFC," Prasad said in a written reply.
"All the TV channels have recently been asked by the government to strictly adhere to the said provisions," he added.
Besides, the minister said, an inter-ministerial committee has been set up by the government to look into violations of programme code and action for violation can be taken by authorised officers notified under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.

In reply to another question, he said the programme code also provides that "no programme should be carried in the cable service which denigrates women through the depiction in any manner of the figure of a woman, her form or body or any part thereof in such a way as to have the effect of being indecent, derrogatory to women or is likely to deprave, corrupt or injure public morality or morals".
