New Delhi, June 15: Fast emerging as a manufacturing hub for power and electrical equipment with Rs 40,000 crore turnover, India will show case the wide product range at the first ever 'Elecrama' fair in February next year through which it hopes to step up exports. Major players from India and abroad including Bhel, ABB, Alstom, Bhartiya Cutler Hammer, Crompton Greaves, Larsen & Toubro, Siemens and Schneider would take part at the exclusive event to be organised by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers' Association (IEEMA).
"The size of electrical equipment industry stands at Rs 40,000 crore annually. Government aims to double the power generation capacity by 2020, which is likely to boost the growth of the power equipment industry," IEEMA said in a statement here.
The 1,00,000 MW domestic power industry is having one of the largest distribution and transmission networks in the world.
With the growth of power sector, electrical manufacturing companies are taking technical help from bodies like Central Power Research Organisation, Central Manufacturing Technology Institute and Electrical Research and Development Association.
The producers are also putting stress on showcasing their strengths through various ways including holding exhibitions.
IEEMA expects over 400 companies to take part in Elecrama 2004 on February 3-17, 2004, in the capital. Bureau Report
