Jammu, Sept 02: A Tehsil commander of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami today surrendered in Doda district while a special police officer was killed and five kgs of RDX recovered in Kathua district of J&K last night, official sources said here today. A top Huji militant, identified as Irshad Ahmed alias Mohideen, Tehsil commander, Kishtwar, surrendered before security forces at Doda alongwith his rifle and ammunition and explosives, the sources said adding he was active in the area for last four years. In a fierce gunbattle in Chachul Gali area of Billwar Tehsil, militants killed special police officer Parshotum Singh last night, they said adding two militants were also injured but managed to escape from the spot. During search of the area, five kgs of RDX in one kg packets, seven detonators and some grenades were recovered from the same area, the sources said.
A major operation is on in the area to track down the militants responsible for the act, the sources said.
Militants abducted one Divender Khajuria from Kathua district last night but due to heavy rains, he managed to escape and returned home safely, the sources said.
