Los Angeles, July 11: Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Kobe Bryant has turned himself in to police after an unidentified woman accused him of sexual misconduct, no charges have been filed at present.
Bryant is one of basketball's biggest stars. Last season he was second highest scorer in the NBA with a career high average of 30 points a game. The six and a half feet tall guard became the youngest player to reach the 10,000 points mark. District Attorney Mark Hurlbert met with Eagle County Sheriff's Department officials on Monday (July 7) to discuss the sex allegations against him. He said he needed time to study police reports before deciding whether charges should be filed against Bryant. Sexual assault cases were very complex, he said, but he hoped to have a decision by the end of the week. Hurlbert and Sheriff's Department spokesman Joseph Hoy did not reveal any details of the case. Information was ordered sealed by Judge Russell Granger. Deputies received the sexual misconduct complaint last Tuesday, a day after the alleged incident occurred in a hotel in Edwards, a resort community west of Vail.

Investigators reviewed physical evidence, conducted interviews and met with the district attorney's office before issuing a warrant for Bryant's arrest. Bryant cooperated with investigators after surrendering to authorities Friday. He was released after posting $25,000 bond.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak issued a statement on Sunday, expressing support for the five-time All-Star, saying the allegations were "completely out of character".

"For the seven years he's been with us, he has been one of the finest young men we've known and a wonderful asset to both our team and our community," he said.

Bryant, who turns 25 next month, is married and has a 6-month-old daughter. He underwent shoulder surgery last month in New York and may not play for the United States in the Olympic qualifying tournament in August in Puerto Rico, but is expected to be ready by the start of training camp in October.
