The entire Opposition, except the AIADMK, walked out of the Lok Sabha Wednesday protesting against the inaction of the government on the air space violation by a helicopter of US naval destroyer at Chennai on November 26. Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed, who was in the chair, asked the government to make a statement in the House Thursday on the incident. The Opposition wanted the Prime Minister to come to the House and explain the situation and the steps taken by the government in this regard.
When there was no proper response from the government in the absence of any senior minister, the Opposition staged a walkout. Minister of state for parliamentary affairs Santosh Gangwar wanted to say something, but the Opposition insisted that the Prime Minister should come to the House and give an explanation. Raising the issue during zero hour, N Janardhan Reddy (Congress) said the incident took place in the wee hours of November 26, but the government was still silent. The helicopter crew did not respond to the air traffic control room and hovered around vital installations like the Kalpakkam nuclear plant, Sriharikota Space Centre and the Chennai airport for more than two hours without permission.
