New Delhi, Aug 31: Every dog must have his day and so did cocker spaniel Treelee, but he made his owner distraught by wandering away from home for a jaunt on the city's streets.
London-born Treelee seems to have weathered the mean, killer streets of Delhi quite well, but the same could not be said of the pet's owner, Romila.
When Treelee got lost two days ago from the posh Prithviraj Road area, a frantic Romila announced a reward of Rs.50,000 for anyone who finds him. She advertised in dailies, hired people to look for Treelee and even told the police.
British national Romila's ordeal ended Thursday when a man arrived at her doorstep with three-year-old Treelee.
"I am so elated. My Treelee is back. I can't express my happiness," Romila said on Thursday soon after she got her precious pet back.
"I don't know who the man is. I am so grateful to him. In the morning (Thursday) there was so much confusion. The man had come to return Treelee and both of us (the owner and the pet) were so overjoyed," Romila said.
"In the excitement, I forgot to talk to the man. He read about Treelee in the newspaper and so returned her," she added.
"The man had written his name and address on a piece of paper. I am going to call him and pay the reward money. "Treelee has been well-fed and looked after. I was so worried that other dogs or people on the street could have harmed her," Romila said.
Romila, who now lives in Mumbai, had come to see her father in Prithviraj Road.
Local police officers said soon after receiving the complaint, they had briefed their men. For the past two days, policemen were scanning Delhi's roads, filled with hundreds of stray dogs and many lost pets, for a glimpse of Treelee.
"We received a complaint from her Wednesday. We keep on getting such complaints but what stunned us was the reward money. This has never happened. It seems the woman is very attached to the dog," said Inspector Suresh Kaushik.
