Bangalore, June 15: The Indian Union Muslim League
(IUML) today demanded the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Union HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi for their alleged role in "instigating the demolition of Babri Masjid".
IUML president G M Banatwala, in his presidential address to the All India IUML delegates meet here, termed the demolition of Babri Masjid as an act of "terror".
Banatwala said that the party would be constrained to submit a memorandum to President A P J Abdul Kalam seeking his intervention to secure the resignation of Advani and Joshi, if they failed to quit on their own.
The IUML chief charged the BJP-led Central government with "patronising the fascist forces", which posed a threat to the secular fabric of the country and hence spelt danger to the rights of the minorities.
Banatwala also accused the NDA government of following a policy of discrimination towards Muslims and other minorities in the country and alleged that some state governments too had been working in tandem with the Centre.
In this context he cited the anti-conversion legislation enacted by Tamil Nadu government and added when existing laws were adequate to deal such issues there was no need for a new law.
