Ahmedabad, Aug 08: Maintaining that NHRC's appeal to the Supreme Court seeking retrial in the best bakery case has "hurt the honour of judiciary", the BJP today sought President A P J Abdul Kalam's intervention in "protecting the judiciary-the third pillar of democracy." BJP's Gujarat State Unit observing the day as "Nyaypalika Sanman Divas" (save judiciary day) to protest the NHRC move, today organised dharnas at all the district headquarters and submitted a memorandum addressed to the president to the collectors. "NHRC's move (to appeal against the Best Bakery verdict acquitting 21 accused) amounts to mistrust in the Gujarat's judiciary and we fear that people's faith in the system would be shaken. India's image on the international front would also take a beating and to prevent such a thing from happening. Bureau Report
