Morcha leaders hold rally, demand AAG`s resignation
Nainital, Sept 01: Nearly 150 Uttarakhand Samyukta Sangarsh Morcha activists today staged a rally at the Mall Road here to protest the acquittal of Anant Kumar Singh, the former District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar, in a case relating to the 1994 Rampur Tiraha police firing which claimed several lives.
Nainital, Sept 01: Nearly 150 Uttarakhand Samyukta Sangarsh Morcha activists today staged a rally at the Mall Road here to protest the acquittal of Anant Kumar Singh, the
former District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar, in a case relating to the 1994 Rampur Tiraha police firing which claimed several lives.
The Morcha leaders, led by its chief convenor Kamla Pant,
demanded the resignation of Uk Uniyal, additional advocate
general, accusing him of not having pleaded the case in the
high court "effectively".
They charged both the ruling congress and opposition BJP with not bringing the culprits of the 1994 Rampur Tiraha shooting incident to book.
The Morcha, an umbrella organisation of political and social organizations, had announced that it would gherao the high court in protest of acquittal of Singh, on whose orders several separate Uttarakhand state agitationers were killed in the police firing in 1994.
However, they did not proceed toward the high court and held demonstration at Tallital before proceeding towards Mall Road.
The high court has said it would recall its July 22 decision.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Nainital) J C Pandey said no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city and the rally was peaceful. Bureau Report
