Jabalpur, Aug 27: Rejecting the idea of simultaneous polls for Lok Sabha and state assemblies, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today said it is not possible under the existing dispensation. "It is not possible to hold Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously under the present arrangement," Singh told reporters here.
Replying to a series of questions, the Chief Minister said unless the Constitution is amended and necessary changes are carried out, the possibility of holding such an exercise is not feasible.
On recent political developments in Uttar Pradesh, Singh said the coalition between BJP and BSP was bound to collapse as it was "aimed at grabbing power and catering to selfish interests of both the partners".
Finally cracks appeared due to clash of interests as ideologies of BJP and BSP were diametrically opposite, he said
Referring to creation of new districts in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Assembly polls, Singh said the move did not involve any confrontation with the Election Commission. He said two more new districts would be formed by January, 2004.
To another query, he said election campaign is on a low key due to heavy rains in different areas.
