Mumbai, Dec 01: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma was today questioned for the fifth time by Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam. He was summoned to sit office this morning.

Sharma is facing a barrage of questions by sit into his alleged role in shielding prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi. He was also questioned last evening.

Sharma, who retired yesterday is also facing a departmental inquiry. The state government on November 25 served on him a chargesheet alleging eight instances of lapses on his part and blamed him for alleged dereliction of duty and willful negligence as the head of the investigating team which probed the scam in Pune.

Just two days ago, Sharma's junior, ACP Ramaknat Padval was suspended from service, a day prior to his retirement for going soft on Telgi when he was in custody of Mumbai Police.
Sharma is the only police officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch who has been questioned maximum number of times by SIT. DCP Pradeep Sawant and ACP Padval were questioned thrice each.
