Aizawl, Dec 02: After a sea-saw battle, the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) today secured an absolute majority by winning 21 seats in the 40-member Mizoram Assembly to enjoy a second term in office. The main opposition congress secured 12 out of the 38 results declared so far.
Zoram Nationalist Party and Mizoram People's Conference secured two seats each and Mara Democratic Front bagged one.
While counting of votes has been withheld in one seat, result in one constituency is awaited.
Carrying his party on the victorious path was Chief Minister Zoramthanga who was returned from both Champai and Kolasib constituencies.
At Champai on the Mizoram-Myanmar border, Zoramthanga defeated his predecessor and PCC chief Lal Thanhawla by 265 votes in a triangular contest.
He has won repeatedly from Champhai since 1987 after his MNF came overground.
Zoramthanga won from Kolasib by 91 votes defeating C Lalbiakthanga of the Mizoram People's Conference.
