New Delhi, July 26: BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh are likely to meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani today to discuss the political situation in the state in the backdrop of rough patches on the party`s ties with ally BSP and to elect a leader of BJP Legislative Party. Ahead of that meeting, leaders and members of Parliament from the state deliberated here on Thursday night on the current political situation and the future course of action, BJP sources said.

The meeting is understood to have discussed the differences between BJP and BSP in UP on some key issues, including distribution of text books only to SC/STs, transfer of officials and reservation policy and how to go about sorting them out. The subject might come up when the state leaders are likely to meet Vajpayee and Advani, the sources said.

State ministers Lalji Tandon and Om Prakash Singh were present at the dinner meeting attended by among others BJP state unit president Vinay Katiyar and in charge of party affairs in the state Kalraj Mishra.

Katiyar and Mishra have been given the charge of conducting the election for the leader of the legislative party slated for July 28 to find a successor to Rajnath Singh who quit recently on his induction as national general secretary of BJP. Bureau Report
