Washington, July 26: The United States has imposed fresh sanctions on a North Korean firm after finding it had violated US law with the sale of missile parts and technology to Yemen, State Department said here.

The sanctions were imposed on Changgwang Sinyong Corporation for its knowing involvement in the transfer of missile technology, control regime category 1 Scud missiles to Yemen in December 2002, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said yesterday.
The sanctions imposed for a three-year and eight-month period will apply to all activities of the North Korean government relating to the development or production of missile equipment or technology and all activities affecting the development or production of electronics, space systems or equipment and military aircraft, the department said. Asked whether the sanctions were for the proliferation of the weapons on a ship that was intercepted by the Spanish authorities but was allowed to go to Yemen, Boucher said, "Yes." <>br
The firm was found to be in violation of US arms export control laws on at least five previous occasions, including earlier this month, he said. Bureau Report
