Nov 21: John McEnroe is to start coaching British tennis players.
His first session will be next week in London when he will work with leading British juniors, alongside Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) performance director David Felgate.
"To put it bluntly, I want to put some fire in their bellies," McEnroe told BBC Radio Five Live.
He has frequently offered to help British tennis and, although never a serious contender for a full-time job, the LTA have been keen to use his experience.
Although it has been difficult tying him down to specific dates an arrangement has now been reached and McEnroe hopes it won't be just a one-off.
"Hopefully this will be the start of an association, not just a superficial thing for a couple of days," he said.
Another addition to the coaching team is arch-LTA critic John Lloyd who will be working with the national training squad at their winter base in La Manga.
Lloyd, the former Davis Cup coach, is looking forward to the week in Spain and believes Brtitish tennis is moving in the right direction.
"At last we have someone in David Felgate who has put aside some of the egos that the LTA had in the past," said Lloyd.
"He just wants success regardless of where the players come from or who coaches them."
