Raipur, June 17: In a bid to weed out corruption at highest level, the Chhattisgarh government has introduced the state Lok Ayog system- a two-member Lok Ayukt body, which also brings the chief minister under its ambit. The Chhattisgarh Lok Ayog ordinance came into existence from last weekend, an official spokesman of the state government told reporters here today.
Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya had signed the ordinance on Saturday and on the same day it was published in the extra-ordinary gazette, the spokesman said.
Unlike other Lok Ayukt systems, it has been provided in the Lok Ayog to have a chief Lok Ayukt from judiciary background and a Lok Ayukt with a bureaucratic background, he said. Stating that the new system was introduced after going through 15 other Lok Ayukt acts, he said this was part of the state government's determination to root out corruption.
The chief minister has also been brought under the ambit of the Lok Ayog, the spokesman said adding, the Ayog will submit its report on the chief minister and MLAs directly to the governor.
Since chief minister Ajit Jogi is on a trip to the United States, the names for the Lok Ayog would be finalised after his arrival, the spokesman added.
