So here's the $25 million question: where is Osama bin Laden? The war against terrorism will go on till this query is answered. Before Sunday's bombings by US and British forces, the buzz was that Bin Laden had moved base again and burrowed himself in some quiet cave retreat in the southern province of Oruzgan, hometown of Taliban chief (and Bin Laden's father-in-law) Mullah Omar. The locals here are more sympathetic to the Saudi émigré than in the Pamir Mountains close to the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. Earlier reports from Pakistani intelligence had located Bin Laden near a former Russian base near the Pamirs. The problem with this theory is that it is unlikely that there is any Russian bunker in the region at all. More importantly, it is too close to the regions occupied by the Northern Alliance, who don't care much for him.
